What Presly can and can't do with your Facebook Page
When you connect a Facebook Page to Presly, you are granting access to that Page — not to your personal Facebook profile. Presly uses it to publish the posts you approve, read the comments and messages on those posts, and pull back the view and engagement numbers. Nothing else.

What access does a social media scheduler need?
A scheduler needs enough Page access to identify the Page, publish the content you authorize, and read the Page activity it shows back to you. It does not need ownership of the Page or general access to your personal Facebook life.
Each useful capability maps to a visible feature: Page selection, publishing, analytics, comments, or Page messages. The live Facebook consent screen is the authority. Presly connects through an integration provider, so this guide deliberately describes capabilities in plain language instead of inventing technical permission identifiers.
The inbox capability is practical rather than open-ended. It allows messages and comments for the connected Page to appear in Presly and allows a reply you approve to be sent as that Page. It does not expose personal Messenger conversations, and never opening the inbox does not cause hidden replies.
What does connecting a Facebook Page look like?
You start inside Presly, move briefly to Facebook to authenticate, choose a Page, review Facebook's consent screen, and return to Presly. Your Facebook password is entered on Facebook's own screen, never into a Presly password field.
- Open Settings → Integrations and choose Facebook.
- Facebook asks you to sign in or continue with the profile that manages the Page. This is the administrator identity Meta uses to check Page access.
- Review the Pages Facebook makes available and choose the business Page you intend to connect.
- Read the capabilities on Facebook's consent screen. Declining one may prevent the matching feature from working.
- Return to Presly and confirm that the Page name and profile image are correct before scheduling anything.
If the Page is absent, stop instead of connecting a different one. Common causes are using the wrong personal profile, lacking sufficient Page access, or excluding the Page during Meta's authorization flow. Check Meta's Page-access screen first.
Who is allowed to connect a Facebook Page?
The connecting person must have Page access that permits the work being delegated. Meta distinguishes Facebook access, task access, and full control; only full control can change who else controls the Page.
| Meta access concept | Plain-language meaning | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Facebook access | A person can switch into the Page and perform allowed Page work | Available actions depend on whether access is partial or full |
| Task access | A person works through business tools without switching into the Page | Publishing, messages, and insights can be delegated as tasks |
| Full control | A person may also manage settings and other people's access | Treat this like administrator authority; a scheduler does not become the owner |
In practical terms, ask two questions: may this person work on content, messages, and insights, and may this person change access for others? Presly needs only the business capabilities that power enabled features. It cannot promote itself to full control, remove an administrator, or take ownership of a Page.
Meta changes labels and menus, particularly for Pages inside a business portfolio. Use Meta's current access screen rather than relying on an old screenshot. If another employee created the Page, ask the person with full control to confirm your role before troubleshooting the scheduler.
Is a Facebook Page different from a personal profile?
Yes. A Page represents a business, organization, or public presence, while a personal profile represents an individual. You authenticate through a personal profile because Meta needs to know which human is authorized to manage the separate Page.
This is why the connection screen may say “Continue as [your name].” That wording does not turn your personal timeline into a business channel. After authentication, you select a Page, and that Page is the publishing destination.
Page posts, Page comments, Page messages, and Page insights are business objects. Personal friends, private-profile posts, personal photos, and personal Messenger history are outside the connection described here. If you have only a personal profile and no Page, there is no Facebook business Page for Presly to connect.
How does Instagram relate to a Facebook Page connection?
An Instagram professional account can be linked to a Facebook Page inside Meta's business tools. That relationship can determine whether an integration can find the Instagram account and which business authority may manage it.
Confirm that the intended professional Instagram account is linked to the intended Page, then authenticate with a Facebook profile that has sufficient Page access. Do not link unrelated accounts merely to clear an error. First verify the business owns both destinations and that Meta shows the names you expect.
A linked relationship does not merge audiences or make personal Facebook content available. Facebook and Instagram remain separate destinations with different formats. A post prepared for both still needs a review of crop, caption, tags, and platform restrictions before approval.
What changes after a password reset or 2FA update?
A password or security change can require you to authenticate again, but it never gives Presly your new password. The correct response to lost authorization is to reconnect through Facebook's current login and consent flow.
Two-factor authentication protects the Facebook account used to administer the Page. Complete Meta's challenge when it appears; never send a one-time code to a scheduler's support team. A password reset, suspicious-login review, Page-role change, or business-portfolio change may cause Meta to invalidate an existing authorization.
When authorization is invalid, Presly treats it as a stop condition. It cannot publish to the destination until Meta issues valid access again. This is safer than repeatedly attempting unauthorized publishing or showing a post as live when the network rejected it.
What does Presly ask for, and why?
| Permission | What it lets Presly do | Why we need it |
|---|---|---|
| Manage your Page | Publish and schedule posts to the Page | This is the product |
| Read Page engagement | Pull likes, comments, shares, and views back into your dashboard | So your analytics are real numbers, not estimates |
| Read and reply to Page messages and comments | Show your inbox in Presly and send the replies you approve | Growth plan and above; if you never open the inbox, we never use it |
| Read your Page list | Show you which Pages you can connect | Only to let you pick |
Presly connects through an integration provider, so we describe the capabilities here in plain language instead of inventing technical permission names.
What can Presly not do with the connection?
- Cannot post to your personal Facebook profile. Ever. The connection is Page-scoped.
- Cannot see your personal friends, photos, or private messages.
- Cannot add or remove Page admins, or change who owns the Page.
- Cannot delete your Page or change its name.
- Cannot post anything you have not approved when autopilot is off. With autopilot on, we publish on the schedule you set, and you can switch it off at any time.
- Cannot keep access after you disconnect. Revoke access and we lose it the same moment.
How do you revoke access?
Two ways, both instant. In Presly: Settings → Integrations → Disconnect. In Facebook itself: Settings → Business Integrations → Presly → Remove. Either one ends our access immediately. Your already-published posts stay on your Page; they belong to you, not to us.
What happens when a token expires?
Facebook access tokens expire. When one does, Presly stops publishing to that Page and emails you to reconnect — we do not silently fail and we do not silently retry forever. Scheduled posts for that Page move to drafts so nothing is lost and nothing goes out unnoticed.
Where does connected-account data sit?
Presly runs on Google Cloud in the United States. Your posts and media are stored there, and after your social connections are deactivated we keep them for a short time. Connections with valid platform access can restore automatically if you resubscribe soon enough; otherwise you reconnect through each network.
What can the Presly team see internally?
The team can support the business objects the product stores: connection status, Page-facing post data, scheduled content, and engagement or inbox data used by enabled features. That does not include your Facebook password, personal friends list, private photos, or personal Messenger history.
Support may need to determine whether Meta sees an account as connected, expired, or missing a required capability. That is operational troubleshooting, not permission to browse personal Facebook. When a screenshot is useful, remove unrelated information and show only the Page name, connection error, and relevant setting.
Presly is not a permanent archive of everything on Facebook. Page insights and inbox availability remain subject to Meta's APIs, retention rules, formats, and policy changes. Keep records required by your business or regulator in the system that owns those records.
How do other schedulers describe Facebook access?
Major schedulers document the same basic Meta pattern: authenticate with a profile that controls a Page, grant the capabilities the tool needs, and reconnect when authorization expires. Their supported account types and requested features differ, so compare current vendor help pages rather than assuming every scheduler asks for the same access.
| Vendor-owned guide | Documented connection pattern | Useful comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Buffer | Authenticate with a personal profile that has Page control; personal profiles are not destinations | Page-role and capability requirements |
| Presly | Choose a Page, publish approved content, read Page engagement, and use the Page inbox when enabled | No personal-profile publishing or Page-ownership powers |
A longer capability list is not automatically safer or more dangerous; context matters. Ask whether each item maps to a feature you intend to use, whether Meta lets you revoke it directly, and what the vendor says happens when the connection is lost.
Common questions, answered
Can I give access to my Facebook Page without giving my password?
Yes. Authenticate on Facebook's own screen and authorize the Page; never share your Facebook password with Presly or a support agent.
Is it safe to connect my Facebook Page to an app?
It can be when you verify the app, read the consent screen, understand each capability, and know how to revoke it. Decline if the destination or requested work does not match your intention.
What permissions does a social media scheduler need?
For Presly, the useful capabilities are listing eligible Pages, publishing approved Page posts, reading Page engagement, and reading or replying to Page messages when you use the inbox.
How do I revoke app access to a Facebook Page?
Disconnect under Presly Settings → Integrations or remove Presly from Facebook's Business Integrations or Apps and Websites settings.
Will Presly post to my personal Facebook profile?
No. The supported connection is Page-scoped; your profile proves which Pages you may manage.
Why does Facebook ask me to continue as my personal name?
Meta authenticates a real person before showing the Pages that person controls. The Page you select remains the destination.
Why is my Facebook Page missing from the connection list?
Check the signed-in profile, its Page access, and whether the Page was allowed on Meta's consent screen.
What happens if my Facebook access token expires?
Publishing stops for that destination, affected scheduled work moves to drafts, and you reconnect through Facebook.
Does changing my Facebook password disconnect Presly?
It may require reauthorization. Presly never needs the new password; reconnect only through Meta.
Does connecting Instagram give access to my personal Facebook?
No. A professional Instagram account may use Page authority for business features, but personal Facebook content is not a publishing destination.
