The Baltimore posting guide

Presly, the AI social media and booking app for local businesses (presly.ai), learns what your shop sells from a quick description, then keeps 10 platforms stocked with captioned, illustrated posts, so a Hampden boutique, a Highlandtown carryout, a Canton barber or a Harford Road contractor stays in view from Ravens Sundays to Restaurant Week to the first inch of snow at BWI. Even loyal Baltimoreans scroll before they stroll. Presly handles the phone-screen side while you handle the counter, and Growth and Pro gather DMs, reviews and booking requests on one screen. You get 7 free days (card at sign-up), then plans start at $39 a month.

Key facts

Presly in brief

  • Captions, hashtags and images come from one app, which then publishes to 10 platforms; Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Google Business Profile are among them.
  • Use the images Presly generates, the photos on your camera roll, or some of each. Manual posts never cost credits.
  • One posting language per business, chosen from 30-plus, including Spanish, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Arabic, Korean, Filipino and Vietnamese.
  • Growth and Pro bring DMs, comments and reviews into one Inbox (ask for an AI reply idea whenever you want one) and add a booking page for appointment or table requests.
  • Monthly: Starter $39, Growth $79, Pro $159, Agency $499, each opening with 7 free days and a card at sign-up.

Baltimore in brief

  • 569,997 residents on July 1, 2025, only 56 fewer than in 2024.1
  • 9,619 employer firms carrying 317,085 employees (2022), and 46,731 more businesses with nobody on payroll (2023).23
  • 12,383 establishments in 2023, with 1,446 of them serving food or drinks.4
  • Median age 36.2; 18.0% of residents are 25 to 34.5
  • A normal year at BWI brings 19.3 inches of snow and 33.9 days that reach 90°F.6

Why does a Baltimore business lose ground when its feed goes quiet?

Because Baltimore shoppers are loyal once they find you, and these days the finding happens on a phone. The city's population barely moved between 2024 and 2025, holding near 570,000.1 That means fewer brand-new arrivals than a boomtown and more long-time neighbors who pick a crab house, a stylist or a mechanic and keep going back. Of Baltimore's 255,668 households, 89.8% own a smartphone and 85.4% subscribe to broadband, so the screen is where the picking starts.78

The competition looks a lot like you. Roughly 54.3% of the city's 12,383 establishments, 6,730 in all, employ fewer than five people (our arithmetic).4 Another 46,731 operate with no employees at all.3 Since Baltimore is an independent city, those counts are for the city alone, separate from Baltimore County. When the owner is also the cashier, the buyer and the cleanup crew, Instagram is the first chore to slide.

To someone in Canton choosing dinner, a grid that stops in August reads like a "for lease" sign.

How does Presly handle social media for a Baltimore shop?

You explain the business one time; Presly fills the weeks after that.

Your shop, in your words. List what you sell, the neighborhoods you serve and the networks you use. Presly turns that into copy, adds a picture to each piece and slots the batch into your chosen times. Autopilot is on from day one. You can review and edit your posts before they go out, or let it run.

The calendar knows the season; you add the city. Seasonal themes track the month of publishing, so a February post might talk oyster stew and snow hours and a July one cold brew and shade. Anything specifically Baltimore, like a Ravens kickoff, the Cookie Tour in Union Square or Restaurant Week, goes in as a topic you type, and Presly builds posts around it.

Bring photos or skip them. Shoot the crab cakes on the counter, or let Presly produce the picture. Manual posts never cost credits.

Likes turn into requests. Growth and Pro include a booking page. Contractors and stylists collect appointment requests there; dining rooms collect table requests carrying the date, time and party size. Confirm them one at a time or set auto-confirm. Every customer gets a reminder the day before, and owners who want it can add another two hours out.

Replies without the scramble. Those plans also route Instagram comments, Facebook messages and Google reviews into a single Inbox. On Growth, tap for an AI suggestion, then edit and send it. On Pro the AI has a draft sitting there as soon as you open the message.

The math is forgiving. If the feed brings in one extra kitchen estimate, a handful of game-night trays or one new regular in the chair each month, Starter at $39 has likely earned its keep.

How much does a social media manager cost in Baltimore?

Hiring someone costs Baltimore employers several thousand dollars a month; even Pro costs about four and a half hours of that person's pay. BLS publishes no wage line called "social media manager." The closest fit is code 13-1161, which pays a median $74,620 a year ($35.88 an hour) in the Baltimore-Columbia-Towson metro as of May 2025.9 PR specialists, code 27-3031, sit a little higher at $77,570.9

Run those figures against Presly (our arithmetic):

  • $74,620 a year is roughly $6,218 a month in salary, and employer taxes and benefits come on top. The PR median is near $6,464.
  • $39 for Starter equals about 65 minutes of specialist pay. $159 for Pro equals about four and a half hours.
  • A single eight-hour specialist shift, around $287, would cover Starter from now until spring and then some: seven months come to $273.
  • Twelve months of Growth, $948, matches about 26 hours of that specialist's pay, three and a half shifts, booking page and Inbox included.
  • Twelve months of Pro, $1,908, is roughly 2.6% of one median marketing salary.

Agency retainers vary too much to quote, so for a small carryout or renovation crew the hourly comparison is the useful one.

What is the best social media app for a Baltimore small business?

We recommend Presly. Four reasons it fits Charm City:

  • The stadiums never sleep for long. The Ravens are home November 5 and 16 and December 13 and 27, and the Orioles return to Camden Yards on March 29, 2027.1011 Posts queued a few days early meet fans while they are still making plans.
  • Neighborhood names sell. Visit Baltimore counts more than 250 neighborhoods, and "right off the Avenue" or "by the Fells Point square" lands harder than any generic slogan.12
  • Your Google listing gets fresh content. It is one of the 10 platforms, so somebody searching for crab soup near Federal Hill sees something you posted days ago, not months.13
  • Every lead lands in the same place. With Growth or Pro, the Saturday comment, the Monday review and the Wednesday booking request share one screen.

Should a Baltimore carryout or contractor hire an agency or use an app?

An app gives most independent Baltimore businesses more for the money. Agencies bring contracts and invoices. Going it alone costs you the hours after you lock up. Presly produces and schedules the posts and gathers the replies and requests.

What would Presly post for a Baltimore crab cake carryout and a rowhouse contractor?

We invented these two posts to show the idea, choosing business types common in the city; neither one describes a real business or customer.

Example postInstagram

Example post for a crab cake and seafood carryout in Baltimore

Monday Night Football is in Baltimore on Nov 16. The Ravens host the Chargers at 8:15, and our kitchen is staying open right up to kickoff. The game-night tray: two broiled jumbo lump crab cakes, a quart of Maryland crab soup and a pound of fries shaken with Old Bay. Call ahead and it will be bagged and hot when you walk in, so you are on the couch before the anthem. See the full menu and hours: link in bio. #BaltimoreEats #CrabCakes #RavensFlock #CharmCity #OldBay
Example post image: Two golden broiled crab cakes with large lumps of crab meat on a white plate beside a lemon wedge and a small ramekin of tartar sauce, a cup of red Maryland crab soup and a basket of crinkle fries dusted with orange seasoning on a dark wood tabletop, one hand squeezing the lemon, tight table-level framing, no faces, no text, no logos.

Why it works: The Ravens' official 2026 schedule has the Los Angeles Chargers at Baltimore on Monday, November 16, at 8:15 p.m. on ESPN.10 Visit Baltimore calls blue crabs "quintessentially Baltimore" and says the Chesapeake Bay supplies more than a third of the nation's blue crab.14 The city has 632 limited-service restaurants and 424 full-service ones chasing the same dinner, and a mid-November night at BWI normally bottoms out at 36.5°F, good weather for eating in front of the TV.46

Example post for a rowhouse renovation contractor in Baltimore

On Sunday, Dec 13, Union Square opens its historic homes for the 41st Cookie Tour, noon to 4:30. Walk through those restored parlors and it is hard not to think about your own rowhouse: the hairline cracks in the plaster, the stair that groans on the fourth step, the narrow kitchen nobody has touched in decades. Winter is a smart season for inside work. We repair plaster, refinish original pine floors, rebuild worn stairs and open up tight kitchens, and our crews seal the dust behind plastic walls. January walk-through slots are filling now. Book your winter walk-through: link in bio. #BaltimoreRowhouse #UnionSquareBaltimore #RowhomeRenovation #BmoreHomes
Example post image: Gloved hands smoothing fresh plaster with a steel trowel on an interior rowhouse wall beside a tall original window with deep painted wood trim, a refinished honey-toned pine floor with a folded drop cloth at the edge, soft winter daylight, no faces, no text, no logos.

Why it works: The Union Square Association runs its Cookie Tour of Historic Homes on the second Sunday of December, lists the 41st edition for Sunday, December 13, noon to 4:30 p.m., and draws about 600 visitors a year.15 Visit Baltimore singles out Canton's "rows of classic marble stoops on traditional Baltimore brick and Formstone row houses."16 Of the city's 145 residential remodelers, 117, or about 81%, employ fewer than five people, so a crew that shows its work every week is easy to remember (our arithmetic).4 BWI averages 24.0 freezing nights in January, prime time for jobs behind the front door.6

What is on the Baltimore posting calendar, month by month?

Dates were checked on October 18, 2026, with the team or organizer, Visit Baltimore or City Schools. State holidays follow Maryland's Department of Budget and Management (its 2027 list was not yet out), and school days follow the Baltimore City Public Schools 2026-27 calendar.171819 Anything without an announced 2027 date gets its usual timing instead.

January. City Schools' winter break wraps up on New Year's Day, and classes pause again for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 18.1819 The Ravens finish the regular season at home against Pittsburgh on a date the team will set after Week 17.10 Winter Restaurant Week returns every year; the 2026 run, meant to end February 1, was pushed to February 7 because of bad weather.20 Post idea: a prix fixe announcement or a snowed-in dinner bundle.

February. BWI's snowiest month, averaging 7.5 inches.6 City Schools close for Presidents Day on February 15.19 The CIAA men's and women's basketball tournament is in town February 23 to 27, 2027, with Fan Fest at the Baltimore Convention Center.12 Post idea: tournament-week late hours for out-of-town fans.

March. Orioles Home Opener: Monday, March 29, 2027, against Toronto at Camden Yards. City Schools' spring break covers March 26 to April 2.1118 Post idea: an Opening Day lunch for fans walking to the ballpark.

April. The opening homestand continues with two more Toronto games from March 31, then Detroit for the first home weekend series; Miami visits April 23 to 25.11 Post idea: the year's first sidewalk table or stoop-side coffee.

May. The Preakness is Sunday, May 23, 2027, at Pimlico, with the Black-Eyed Susan card on Saturday, May 22.21 Mount Vernon's Flower Mart, started in 1911, comes back each May.22 The Mets visit Camden Yards on Memorial Day, May 31.11 Post idea: a Preakness weekend menu plus holiday hours.

June. The school year ends June 11, 2027.18 AFRAM, usually on Juneteenth weekend, marked its 50th year June 19 to 21, 2026, in Druid Hill Park.2223 Post idea: summer hours and a midweek happy hour.

July. Fourth of July fireworks over the Inner Harbor are visible from Federal Hill, Canton, Harbor East and Fells Point.22 Washington visits the Orioles July 16 to 18.11 July is the hottest month, averaging 88.8°F with 13.4 days of 90°F or more.6 Post idea: a summer crab feast or an iced drink special.14

August. Summer Restaurant Week brings ten days of prix fixe menus.22 This school year began August 24, 2026.18 Post idea: a quick weekday lunch for the back-to-routine crowd.

September. The Rays play at Camden Yards on Labor Day, September 6, 2027, and the Yankees close out the season there September 24 to 26.11 The 2026 Baltimore Book Festival took place September 12 and 13 in Waverly.23 Post idea: a fall menu or a gutter-and-window service.

October. The Butchers Hill House Tour opened its doors on October 18, 2026, and Cincinnati plays the Ravens in Baltimore on October 25.2210 Post idea: an open house or a tailgate platter.

November. Two prime-time Ravens home games: Jacksonville on Thursday, November 5, and the Chargers on Monday, November 16, both at 8:15 p.m.10 State offices close for Veterans Day on November 11, Thanksgiving on November 26 and American Indian Heritage Day on November 27.17 City Schools are out November 25 to 27.19 Post idea: holiday pre-orders and game-night carryout.

December. Monument Lighting in Mount Vernon Place, the unofficial kickoff of Baltimore's holiday season, held its 54th edition on December 4, 2025; the Conservancy posts each year's date.24 Sunday, December 13, doubles up: the Union Square Cookie Tour and a 1 p.m. Ravens game against Tampa Bay. Cleveland visits on December 27, and the Ravens play at Cincinnati on New Year's Eve.1510 Winter break begins December 23.18 The city's 2025 New Year's Eve celebration at the Inner Harbor ran from 6 p.m. to midnight fireworks.23 Post idea: holiday hours, gift cards and New Year's Eve tables.

How should a Baltimore business post around Ravens and Orioles game days?

Give every home game a before, a during and an after. After Cincinnati visits on October 25, the Ravens are home November 5, November 16, December 13 and December 27, with Pittsburgh coming in January.10 The team warns that Sunday kickoffs can slide between 1:00, 4:05 and 4:25 p.m., so anchor the post to the date and double-check the time.10

  1. Midweek before: the game special, your hours and the link or phone number.
  2. Game morning: a new photo and a short "open till kickoff" line.
  3. Morning after: thanks for coming, plus a reason to stop by before the next one.

According to Visit Baltimore, Locust Point "comes alive on an Orioles or Ravens game day," and downtown and Federal Hill follow suit.16 Add the game as a topic and Presly drafts all three, then repeats the pattern for Orioles dates from March 29.11

How do BWI's winters and summers change what Baltimore businesses post?

Baltimore gets a true winter and a true summer, and your feed should feel both. NOAA's 1991-2020 normals for the city come from the BWI Airport station.6

  • Cold months: January averages 43.2°F by day and 25.4°F at night. December through February account for 65.6 of the year's 93.2 freezing nights and 16.4 of its 19.3 inches of snow, close to 85% (our arithmetic).6 Warm food, indoor services and cozy hours fit here.
  • Snow days: about 4.6 a year bring an inch or more.6 If one closes you, change that day's post and enter special hours in Google so the map is right.25
  • Hot months: July's average high is 88.8°F, and June through August hold 28.3 of the year's 33.9 days at 90°F or more, about 83% (our arithmetic).6 Talk shade, cold drinks and early appointments.
  • Rain: 45.00 inches fall over 121.3 days with measurable rain each year, so a covered-seating or delivery post is never out of place.6

Which Baltimore neighborhoods should your captions mention?

Name the neighborhood your customers would say out loud. Visit Baltimore's neighborhood guide is a handy cheat sheet.16

  • Fells Point: ballast-block streets and centuries-old buildings in what was once a busy shipbuilding port.
  • Canton and Brewers Hill: the square on O'Donnell Street, marble stoops on brick and Formstone row houses, and Mr. Boh winking from the old brewery tower.
  • Federal Hill: harbor views, brick rowhomes and Cross Street Market, with Locust Point and Fort McHenry next door.
  • Hampden: a 19th-century mill town turned vintage-shop strip along "The Avenue," with dazzling 34th Street displays every holiday season.
  • Mount Vernon: grand old mansions circling the Washington Monument inside a National Landmark Historic District.
  • Hamilton-Lauraville: neighborhoods strung along Harford Road, named Baltimore's best shopping district by Baltimore magazine in 2021.
  • Station North: the city's first official Arts and Entertainment District (2002), around Penn Station.
  • Little Italy and Highlandtown: restaurants run by the same families for generations, and an arts district with food from many countries.

Landmarks help as much as names: "half a block off Patterson Park" places you instantly, so give Presly a few when you set up.

Does a Baltimore business need posts in Spanish or another language?

English carries most Baltimore feeds, with Spanish the clear runner-up. Some 12.0% of residents 5 and older speak another language at home, and 9.3% of residents were born outside the U.S.8

From the Census language table:

  • Spanish: 31,973 speakers, 5.9% of that age group, of whom 14,163 (about 44.3%, our arithmetic) report English skills below "very well."268 The city is roughly 8.2% Hispanic or Latino.5
  • Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese together): 3,602 speakers.26
  • Arabic: 2,135 speakers.26
  • Tagalog including Filipino: 1,241 speakers; Korean: 1,224.26
  • Vietnamese: 726 speakers.26

Setting it in Presly. Language is chosen business by business. A Highlandtown taquería might publish everything in Spanish, a dumpling counter in Simplified or Traditional Chinese, a grocery in Arabic. Filipino, Korean, Russian and Polish sit on the same menu of 30-plus options.

Which Baltimore businesses get the most from Presly?

Here is how we read Baltimore city's 2023 County Business Patterns. It is our view, not a promise of results.4

  1. Food and drink: 1,446 places, among them 632 limited-service restaurants and carryouts, 424 full-service restaurants, 122 coffee and snack bars, 122 bars, 19 food trucks and 14 breweries.
  2. Home improvement: 145 residential remodelers, 345 specialty trade contractors, 82 plumbing and HVAC firms, 55 electricians and 36 landscapers. Old houses make good before-and-after photos.
  3. Beauty and grooming: 83 beauty salons, 31 nail salons, 20 barber shops and 25 spas and other personal care shops.
  4. Health and fitness: 110 dental offices, 89 physical, occupational and speech therapy practices, 31 chiropractors and 54 gyms and fitness centers.
  5. Auto and professional services: 192 auto repair shops, 152 real estate offices and 380 law offices.

Sample week for a Federal Hill nail salon (example only). Presly opens the week Monday with a deep-winter-shades post it wrote and illustrated itself. On Wednesday you upload a fresh set you snapped between appointments. Friday's post fills the remaining Saturday openings through the booking link. On Growth or Pro, the week's new reviews wait in the Inbox, and a reply idea is one tap away.

How often should a Baltimore small business post?

Pick a pace you can keep, and keep it. Nobody sets an official quota. Our Baltimore baseline: Instagram and Facebook three or four times a week, and Google Business Profile once a week. Profile posts without a date range drop into Google's archive at six months, so July's update won't be carrying you in December.13 Ravens home games, the Cookie Tour and Restaurant Week each deserve a bonus post or two.101520

Can Baltimore customers book from my Instagram bio?

Yes, with Growth or Pro. Paste your Presly booking link in the Instagram bio, at the foot of game-day captions and on Google, where each category can hold 10 such links and one can be labeled "Business preferred."27 Someone in Remington picks Thursday at 6, the request reaches you, and you confirm it or let auto-confirm do so. The day before, Presly reminds them, and a second reminder at the two-hour mark is optional. A crab house sees each table request with day, time and party size.

How does a Baltimore business climb in Google Maps results?

Fill in everything, post regularly and talk back to reviewers. Google's help pages boil down to this:

  • Rankings lean on relevance, distance and prominence. Google says paying cannot buy a better local position, while more reviews and higher ratings can help.28
  • Profile posts come as updates, offers or events, and an update may include a book or order button. A weekly Presly post keeps that space from going stale.13
  • Answer reviewers, the happy ones and the unhappy ones. People reading notice who replies.29
  • Snow closures, game-day hours and holiday weeks all belong in special hours, so a customer never shows up to a locked door on Light Street.25
  • For photos, Google wants sharp JPG or PNG images between 10 KB and 5 MB and suggests 720 x 720 pixels.30
  • Keep the name exactly as it appears on your door, and leave links and sales pitches out of the description.31
